| This years Canoe Cray Carnival was once again a huge success ! People of Kalbarri were amazed and commented that they had never seen so many people gathered at the foreshore before. With the marquee, rides and games for kids, market stall, a car display and various other entertainment it was a very busy place.
The Murchison River Dash was introduced for the first time, this being a marathon event of some 18 kilometres, requiring participants to paddle from Murchison House Station to the finish line at Sally’s Tree. We had 24 participants in this Event, who were very enthusiastic about the Murchison River Dash and expect that it will grow as the blue ribbon Event of the Carnival over following years. Canoe Capers was fantastic with children outdoing themselves with imagination and colour this year.
A sudden and quick thunder storm came over in the middle of the day, causing a small disruption. Adrenalin was high and Spirits were not dampened for long. Events resumed including the canoe conga, tug of war and dragon boat races following with prize presentations at sunset. Plenty of delicious food was available throughout the day, including a crayfish cook up in the evening. Musical entertainment and fireworks topped off a great day.
